At the recent Baby Lifeline Conference, Ngawai Moss, EpiSafe’s PPIE lead, joined a panel led by EpiSafe Chief Investigator Professor Shakila Thangaratinam to discuss the importance of listening to and advocating for women in maternity care.

The panel featured notable voices such as Dr Stephanie Hanley (MuMPreDiCT researcher for Multiple Long-Term Conditions and Pregnancy); Clotilde Abe (Co-Founder of Five X More), Amber Marshall (Founder of Big Birthas), and service user representative Khalood Zaffaron. Together, they shared stories and insights into the challenges faced by women.

Ngawai emphasised that being research-active in healthcare settings not only helps achieve safer outcomes but also drives innovation and improvements in maternity care. The EpiSafe study was highlighted as an example, not just for its focus on improving safety for women with epilepsy, but as a testament to how women’s voices can directly shape the development of research.
